The new
East Side Marios in Whitby (located near Walmart at Brock
St/Taunton Rd) is a better choice that the Oshawa location for
quality of food and service. We have been to this location
for lunch several times and always have good food and good
service. Some of our favorites include the Panzarotti, 1/2
chicken (white), and Angel Hair Primavera. For a quick
lunch, this location is a good choice.

If you're
willing to spend a little more on dinner than at a road house,
you really can't go wrong with the KEG! The food is excellent,
the wait staff are well trained and friendly. The surroundings
are very comfortable and cozy.
We ordered the steak and crab and
received a nice sized piece of steak cooked just as we had
ordered. Hot butter and a nice portion of crab legs
rounded out the meal. Oh, did we mention the garlic mashed
potatoes.....delish!
We highly recommend the KEG if
you want to be sure you will get a great meal! They are
extremely consistent with the quality and quantity of their
food. This is a great spot to have a great meal at a relaxed
pace. Expect to spend $120-150 for two if you plan on
ordering wine, but worth every penny.

We
frequently visit Casey's for beer and wings on Friday
evenings. The staff is always attentive and friendly. The
draft is good and the wings are very good! We order our
wings hot & dusted and they are nice. In about 10
visits the wings were overcooked once but that's our only
complaint.
Despite being busy, we can
usually find a seat for 2 between 4:30 and 5:00 on a
Friday. Try Casey's, we think it's a better choice for
food and service than the East Side Marios in Oshawa Center. As
of Sept 2004, the great service and good food continues!!!!

East Side
Mario's was one of our favourite restaurants. The last
three or four visits have been disappointing. The service in
this establishment keeps sliding and is now at the point where
we will not return unless ownership were to change.
They
constantly run out of spit roast chicken during the
dinner hour which, in my opinion there is no excuse for, but
worse, the waitress took three orders for it and then came back
12 minutes later to tell us there was none!
The men's bathroom had no paper
towels and so I decided to tell one of the staff who said they
would take care of it right away. 45 minutes later, still
no paper towels. They just don't seem to care.
Despite a great decor and
ambiance, we'll have to give this one a miss. Try their
other locations in Whitby or the OC.

The
Thorton Arms is a relatively new pub located at the corner of
Thorton Rd and Rossland Rd in Oshawa. We actually know the
manager of this location (Rhonda) as she has worked at just
about every pub in Durham over the past 15 years.
The food at the Thorton Arms was
quite good, however we feel that the restaurant is a bit too
open. You feel like you are sitting in a banquet hall rather
than a restaurant. The floor could use some dividers to break up
the space.

Don
Cherry's for lunch is a great deal! Eight of us visited for
lunch and found great priced beer, super huge servings and great
quality food. Add the TNT Trivia and you have something to
talk about while your waiting for your lunch to be served!
We have to say that we were
impressed and we hope you'll give Don Cherry's a try for lunch,
we think you'll save money and get better value than some of the
other local restaurants in this area.

This is a
very nice dining experience! When I think of going out for a
nice romantic dinner with my spouse....there is no other place!
With the new addition to the
front, the atmosphere was even better on our second visit.
And the service intertwines beautifully.
We started with escargot.
Delicious! Then on to the "Lovers
Delight". Filet Mignon, crab legs, scallops, shrimp,
potato, steamed vegetables....it was delectable. To finish
off this great meal, we had a dessert with fresh strawberries,
cinnamon ice cream with a dash of Grand Marnier.
Absolutely scrumptious! And lets not forget the specialty
coffee....prepared skillfully at our table.
Although it's not inexpensive to
dine here, for those special occasions, it's well worth the
money.

This
restaurant is in the old location of Cotter Street. The
decor has been changed while the food and service has improved.
The wait staff was attentive and
the menu although a little typical, was not badly priced.
The wait for the food was quick and was pretty good with
fajitas, quesadillas, and a child's pizza being ordered.
We recently visited on a Friday
for beers and were pleasantly surprised to find they had a free
snack buffet Friday's from 5-6pm. The beer was good, the
snacks were good, but the service had a little attitude and we
felt that the waitress was more interested in what the men at
the bar thought of her (her usually Friday crowd I suspect)
rather than serving us.

It's hard
to beat the service you receive at this restaurant. The
staff are very friendly and very good at their jobs. The
wait for our dinners wasn't very long but the server made sure
we were kept happy in the meantime.
The food was quite good - the
smothered chicken and the balsamic chicken were quite tasty -
good sized portions. This restaurant is definitely on the
higher end of the scale for family restaurants as the bill for
two adults and two children came to just over $70. But
having a birthday in the family, one of the desserts was free as
well as one after dinner drink (almost $10 free).
Overall, we'd recommend this
restaurant and will be visiting it again soon.

Boston Pizza has several things going for it. The Service has been
consistently good throughout our visits. The food is always ample, although sometimes unexpectedly spicy. The pasta dishes are the best of the menu, in our opinion.
The lunch menu provides excellent value, and has a nice mix of pasta and salad combos. On the down side, Boston Pizza can be very busy (like many popular dining spots), and
the wait during peak times can be up to an hour or more. Overall, we have enjoyed our visits to this restaurant, and will visit again soon.

We heard that the Outback was a very expensive restaurant, so we had avoided it for some time. While not a "Family" restaurant, as a special couples night out, the Outback rates about on par with the Keg or other similar Steakhouses. This restaurant is still relatively new, and on the Friday night we visited,
the wait was about 60 to 75 minutes for a table.
We managed to find a seat in the bar area, which made the wait more enjoyable (with a bottle of wine, of course). My wife and I both chose the Outback special Steak
entree, and a bloomin' Onion (calories +++) as an appetizer. The steak was prepared perfectly and we fully enjoyed the meal. The atmosphere is a bit subdued, with dim lighting. The service was quite good, polite and efficient. All in all, the meal was enjoyable, and worth a visit back for another special occasion.

Yeeee
Haaaa... Montana's Cookhouse Saloon delivers a great dining
out experience! From the free salted peanuts in the bar to the
mile high mud pie, we were impressed. A positive attitude
was displayed from all of the servers we encountered. Upon
complaining about some cork in a glass of wine, (I didn't notice
until I had almost drank the whole glass :) it was immediately
removed from the bill. Our server Mark (How can I help you
my friend), was excellent and provided just the right amount of
attention without being overbearing and the kids really enjoyed
writing on the paper table cloth.
We enjoyed the Sirloin Steak
(medium). It was nicely seasoned and came served on a bed of
fried onions with sautéed mushrooms which were terrific and came on a
sizzling skillet. The meal finished up with a mile high mud pie
which was large enough for 5 people (no joke!) and coffee. The
meal ticket? $65.00... a great bargain. We hope you'll
enjoy Montana's as much as we did.
