About Durham Region, Ontario

Durham Region is located approximately 30 miles east of Toronto.  It begins with Pickering to the west and goes east to Cobourg, north from Lake Ontario to just shy of the base of Lake Simcoe.  Major towns in the Region of Durham including Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Courtice, Bowmanville, Newtonville, Cobourg, Port Perry, Blackstock and Brooklin.

The population of the Region of Durham was 531,000 in May 2001. A target of 760,000 people has been estimated for the number of people living in the Region by the year 2011, and a target of 970,000 people by the year 2021.
