Established in 1983 it was first accredited in 1989 by the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA ), a non-profit organization established to promote the welfare of and encourage the advancement and improvement of zoology, recreation, education, conservation and science.

Jungle Cat World is involved with the captive breeding and management of threatened and endangered species, working with and supporting a variety of Species Survival Plans (SSP) and Population Management Plans (PMP). Animals include the rare Amur leopards (Panthera pardus orientalis), Snow leopards (Uncia uncia) and Ocelots (Leopardus pardalis).

Jungle Cat World is listed with the Canadian Wildlife Service to assist them in the enforcement of the Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). It also offers refuge to animals that have been confiscated by the Canadian government due to illegal ownership and practices.

Jungle Cat World is located just 45 minutes east of Toronto. Take Hwy 401 East from Toronto to Hwy 35/115 (exit #436),11km North to Concession Road 6 (Taunton Road). South-east corner.
