Legends Centre Oshawa
The Oshawa Legends Centre is a recreational complex which is owned and operated by the City of Oshawa. The complex features an indoor pool with water slide and a kiddie pool. The swimming department offers swimming lessons for both kids and adults. The centre is home to 4 indoor ice rinks of which some have limited bench seating. There is public skating available, however there is no area seating in the rinks.
The Legends Centre is also home to a branch of the Oshawa Public Library and the Oshawa Seniors Group which offers daily programs and events of Senior Citizens. The wellness centre that was operating at the Legends Centre has now been closed, however reflexology, reiki and Hypnosis services are available here.
The centre is also home to a medium sized gym which overlooks the swimming pool area. The gym also has a aerobic room attached. Of interest is the indoor walking track which loops the inside of the building overlooking the main foyer. The walking track is remenisent of those you will find on a cruise ship…too bad the view from this one isn’t of the Atlantic.
Lastly, the centre has space available for workshops and special events. Check what’s happening by viewing the 2009 spring and summer leisure guide here (PDF reader required). The webpage for the Legends and other Oshawa Recreations Centres and programs is located here. You can also access a map which indicates the location of City of Oshawa Recreational Facilities and parks.

I have had membership at the legends centre for about a year and a half. I have used the weight room regularly during that time, and have made good gains there and have not had any issues. Although the gym is small and does not have enough equipment for my personal needs, it is however good enough to meet my basic needs. The location is very handy, which counts for a lot as I have a very busy schedule. Recently they rearranged the furniture, for no reason that I could see, rumor had it they wanted to catch people damaging the equipment. Tonight while doing supine bench press with 100lb dumbbells I was told by the lady at the desk to stop dropping the weights, she informed that her supervisor could here the weights falling from another area. I informed her I was not dropping the weights and ask your boss to come and see me. The supervisor came and ask me to stop dropping the weights. I informed her I was not dropping the weights. She insisted and became very annoying for a third time I informed her I was not dropping the weights. She persisted, and I asked her to leave me alone. She went away for a moment, I continued my exercise and was being extra careful not to make any noise or be a bother to anyone. The supervisor came back with the lady at the desk and continued to harass me, at one point picking up a bag of my lifting equipment and moving it around the gym…
I stopped my exercise, grabbed my gear, gave them my membership card and left angry and disgusted. A long time ago I first went into the weight room at 15 years old, today at 49 as a competitive powerlifter I work very hard to keep what I got left. In all of the gyms I’ve been in over the years, I have never been treated so poorly. As far as the dropping of weights is concerned, it never happened. As far as the “loud noise” that people are complaining about…excuse me this is a weight room and I was exercising with a pair of 100 lb dumbbells. As far as the general comments about people dropping weights and scuffing the rubber floor. Perhaps black rubber dumbbells may have more to do with the scuffed floor than equipment abuse. All this boss had to do was watch my exercise to see that I was not dropping anything. Seems to me these persons have no idea what progressive weight resistance training is all about.
The harassment seems to be against the big strong guy (me) who can handle the heaviest weights in the gym and they go thud when you set them down. If this is what the legends centre is all about I urge people that are serious about training and reaching there goals not to come here.
I am very offended; I require a refund for the portion of my monies back to me left owing on the time of the membership. A simple apology by the offending supervisor with assurances that this won’t happen again would suffice as well.
